Known DMS Utilities issues and fixes
"Compile error in hidden module" errors seen when installing the utility
You are trying to use the 32-bit version with 64-bit Excel, or vice-versa. Download the correct installer.
DMS Toolbar does not persist in Excel
Although apparently installed successfully, the DMS Toolbar may disappear from Excel when it is restarted.
Two issues are relevant:
The DMS Utilities are usually installed by default to c:\cambustion\DMSUtilities.
Excel should copy the relevant files to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\AddIns (obviously this depends on the username). This copy process appears to not always be succesful.
To resolve it, manually copy DMSUtilities.xla from c\cambustion\DMSUtilities to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\AddIns.
Single-workbook-per-window paradigm in Excel.
To resolve, run the installer as normal. Open Excel with a blank document. From the file tab, close the blank document. Now install the add-in as normal via the File>Options route.
After installing and before restarting Excel, create a blank document. Save the blank document somewhere (it can be deleted later).
From the file tab, close the blank document.
Automation Error After Recent Windows Update
This issue relates to an incomplete Windows update. To resolve first close MS Excel and then:
Open a command prompt as Administrator
In Windows7 you will require elevated privileges- type cmd in the run box and hold down the ctrl and shift keys at the same time as pressing Enter).
This will open a command prompt window with the necessary privileges.
For 32 bit Operating Systems
Type "cd c:\Windows\system32" and press Enter
For 64 bit Operating Systems
Type "cd c:\Windows\sysWOW64" and press Enter
For both 32 and 64 bit Operating Systems, continue:
Type "regsvr32 /u mscomctl.ocx" and press Enter
Accept the dialogue box
Type "regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx" and press Enter
Accept the dialogue box
Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found
The error message "Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found" may be displayed when starting MS Excel with the DMS Utilities installed. This relates to missing components in Excel, and the recommendation is to reinstall MS Excel.
