AAC | Aerodynamic Aerosol Classifier

The Aerodynamic Aerosol Classifier

Launched in 2016, the Aerodynamic Aerosol Classifier is a novel aerosol instrument, capable of classifying particles between 25 nm and >5,000 nm (PM5) according to their aerodynamic diameter.

Uniquely, the AAC does not require the particles to be electrically charged (no radioactive or X-ray source is required for operation), which makes it simply the best way to produce a monodisperse aerosol.

Applications

Instrument calibration - e.g. optical devices such as Optical Particle Counters (OPCs) and WIBS

Classification of particles by aerodynamic diameter (e.g. inhalation studies, as an inlet to aerosol mass spectrometers).

Filter & facemask penetration efficiency testing by aerodynamic diameter.

Improved alternative to the Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA) for producing a truly monodisperse aerosol.

Combine with a Condensation Particle Counter (integrated digital interface) to produce true aerodynamic size distributions over a wider size range and with better transmission efficiency than other devices such as the Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) which operates in the electrical mobility regime and is consequently limited by charging efficiency / charging artefacts.
